A MAJORITY LIBERAL GOVERNMENT WILL:
- Support more than 2,000 Tasmanians into jobs
- Create new local Jobs Hubs in Burnie, Brighton, Huonville and St Helens, and expand the Northern Employment and Business HubFund Youth Connections for existing Hubs at Sorell, Glenorchy and George Town to focus on young Tasmanians
- Deliver a new Jobs Tasmania hub partnership fund
The Tasmanian Liberals have a long-term Plan to deliver Jobs Hubs in regional areas across the State.
Jobs Hubs give more Tasmanians the opportunity to live and work in the place they call home.
They bring local industry and local workers together and work with job seekers to address barriers to work, including skills and transport.
We are setting up a Job Ready Fund to help job seekers with the essential tools they need, such as White Card licensing, protective clothing or boots.
We are also expanding our Area Connect Service to get more regional transport to work, training or education where no easy options exist.
And we are encouraging employers to take on a long-term job seeker, through our Tasmanian Employer Bonus.
Based on the success of the first Jobs Hub at Sorell, this could see more than 2000 Tasmanians enter jobs in these regions over the next three years, including long-term and young job seekers.
There have been 26,400 jobs created under a Liberal Government since we were first elected, and youth unemployment is the third lowest of any State, but we understand there is more we can do in our regional areas.
We will establish new Jobs Hubs at Burnie, Brighton, Huonville and St Helens, and expand the operations of the Northern Employment and Business Hub
A Majority Liberal Government will provide $10.6 million to establish four new jobs hubs in regional communities around Tasmania and expand the coverage of the Northern Employment and Business Hub.
The North West and West Coast Jobs Tasmania Hub at Burnie will have outreach presences on the West Coast, on King Island and at Smithton.
The South-Central Jobs Tasmania Hub at Brighton will cover the Central Highlands, Derwent Valley, Southern Midlands and Brighton areas.
The Huonville Jobs Hub will focus on the Channel region, including Geeveston, Dover, Cygnet and Bruny Island.
The St Helens Jobs Hub will include the greater East Coast and North East.
The Regional Northern Employment and Business Hub, operated by the Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone Ltd, will be expanded for two years to cover more local areas.
Each new hub will be governed by a local board, which will support coordination with government, local schools, TasTAFE and vocational training, existing community networks, the non-government and local government sectors and the local community.
The Hubs will also be supported by a new dedicated Jobs Tasmania unit in the Department of State Growth, to deliver common overhead supports, workforce analysis and data mapping.
Each Jobs Hub will have a workforce development coordinator, support staff and we will work with local government and industry to determine the best place for each Hub.
Fund Youth Connectors for existing Hubs at Sorell, Glenorchy and George Town to focus on young Tasmanians
A pilot Youth Connectors program will be funded to operate in conjunction with existing hubs in Sorell, Glenorchy and the George Town Launchpad Hub, at a cost of $1.3 million.
This program will focus on young Tasmanians seeking jobs, training and apprenticeships in their local area. The pilot will run for two years.
Deliver a new Jobs Tasmania hub partnership fund
We will establish a $1.5 million Jobs Tasmania Partnership fund, for partnerships between the State Government and the Non-Government Sector to support our ‘local people into local jobs’ agenda. This will ensure we get close engagement and alignment between the non-Government sector and the Jobs Tasmania Hubs network.
This engagement will add value to our Jobs Hubs, as we have seen with Sorell with Colony 47 and TasCOSS, and ensure we can harness operators of existing work readiness programs, such as the Beacon Foundation.
Supporting the Fit for Work Devonport Project
Youth, Family and Community Connections in Devonport provide the Fit for Work project to provide young job seekers with individualised support and case management to successfully engage in long-term employment, education and training.
We will provide $170 000 so they can continue their work.
Helping migrants into employment
Tasmanians from migrant backgrounds often face additional barriers to securing long-term work. Many are often highly skilled and keen to participate in the workforce.
We will provide $190 000 to support migrant and multicultural employment programs, supporting the Migrant Resource Centres in the south and north to build and extend their existing job readiness programs.
