A majority liberal government
Establish a Multicultural Hub in the North of the State, as a community space for events and gatherings for newly-arrived and established migrant communities, investing $250,000 towards the redevelopment of the Migrant Resource Centre’s Mowbray site, and $50,000 per year, for two years, to support its operation.
Provide $100,000 for a trial for two years of a Small Business Enterprise Loans program for new enterprises within migrant and multicultural communities.
Deliver funding of $60,000 over two years for Harmony Week and Festival Support to be provided to Multicultural Council of Tasmania (MCOT).
Provide $40,000 over two years for the Interpreting Scholarship Program.
Provide $190 000 as part of our Delivering Local Jobs for Local People plan* to support Migrant Resource Centres in the South and North to build and extend their existing migrant and multicultural employment job readiness programs.
Continue to fund the Multicultural Council of Tasmania as a peak community organisation for multicultural communities, to work to create welcoming communities for new arrivals to link them with opportunities and services within their local community.

The Hub will be developed at the Migrant Resource Centre North, at site in Mowbray, becoming the centrepiece of multiculturalism in Launceston.
Based on the successful multicultural hub established by the Liberal Majority Government in the south, the new hub will provide an innovative space that focuses on the needs of newly-arrived migrants, as well as established communities.
It will provide space for events, gatherings and exhibitions, showcasing traditional craftsmanship, as well as providing information, resources and training.
A re-elected Majority Liberal Government will provide $50 000 per annum over the next two years to operate the multicultural hub, and provide $250,000 toward the MRC North’s plans to further redevelop its site at Mowbray.
Provide $100,000 for a trial for two years of a Small Business Enterprise Loans program for new enterprises within migrant and multicultural communities.
This initiative will provide $100, 000 for interest free loans of up to $5000 to assist migrants realise their dream of setting up their own business.
The Small Business Enterprise Loans program will be a partnership with a re-elected Majority Liberal Government and the Migrant Resources Centre, with $20,000 provided to assist with culturally specific support.
This pilot will not only support highly skilled migrants with interest free loans, it will also link them with industry bodies in key growth areas to maximise their chances of success.
Deliver funding of $60,000 over two years for Harmony Week and Festival Support to be provided to Multicultural Council of Tasmania (MCOT)
A re-elected Majority Liberal Government will bring our multicultural communities and Tasmanians together to celebrate our diversity, with funding of $60,000 over two years for Harmony Week and small festival support.
This funding will be provided to MCOT – the peak body.
Provide $40,000 over two years for the Interpreting Scholarship Program
In partnership with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI), a re-elected Majority Liberal Government will provide funding of $40,000 over two years for the Interpreting Scholarship Program.
This will help us to increase the number of certified translators and interpreters in Tasmania.
Our record in Government
- Supported the development of the Multicultural Community Space plan.
- Established the Moonah Multicultural Hub, and its operational costs.
- Created a Multicultural Grants Program as part of our Tasmania’s Population Growth Strategy.
- Established the Safe Haven Hub to provide education support and employment pathways for refugees.
- Provided $3.2 million since 2017 to support new refugee arrivals, including $1 million for humanitarian support.
