An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to continue to build on Tasmania’s reputation as a world leading tourism destination, highlight Tasmania’s unique experiences, and ensure that the visitor economy continues to have a positive impact on Tasmania’s environment, economy, and way of life.
The Chocolate Experience at Cadbury will be a major tourism and economic driver.
A majority Liberal Government will initially contribute $4 million to get the project shovel ready and commence initial site works including public walkways, cycleways and headworks.
Subject to the achievement of agreed milestones and due diligence, up to a further $8 million will be made available to see this $100 million vision become the next ‘must see’ on every tourist’s bucket list.
Like MONA, the Chocolate Experience will be a unique visitor attraction drawing tourists and locals alike to Hobart’s northern suburbs and will include:
- an immersion into chocolate making
- the world’s tallest ‘glass and a half’ chocolate fountain
- Build Your Own Bar Experience
- Arboretum
- Chocolate Lounge
- new Bespoke Chocolate Studio
A new range of Tasmanian-branded bespoke chocolates will be developed using ingredients from Tasmanian growers and producers. With a potential market value of around $40 million, the new line will rely on a significant increase in milk supply from North West farmers and provide significant training and career opportunities.
It will be a major economic driver, returning $120 million to the economy each year, representing 300 construction jobs and 200 ongoing jobs once complete, and will also see the construction of two new ferries in Hobart, and a new ferry terminal with public access at the Claremont waterfront parklands.
Every year tourism contributes around $3.96 billion into the Tasmanian economy and it employs 37,000 Tasmanians. This has grown exceptionally on our watch. We will continue to invest strategically to back our tourism industry and encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more, supporting local businesses and jobs.
The Chocolate Experience at Cadbury Claremont will begin construction next year and is expected to welcome its first guests in 2026.
Net Cost: $12 million
