Delivering the Nation’s Best Parent Support Service for Mothers and Babies

QUICK FACTS
  • Tresillian Family Care has helped more than 80,000 Australian families in the early years of their child's life, for more than 100 years.
  • They provide professional advice, education and guidance to new parents about feeding, sleep, settling, nutrition and so much more.

Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, a re-elected majority Liberal Government will:

  • Partner with the nation’s best parent support service, Tresillian Family Care, to establish Tasmania's first new four-bed mother and baby centre.
  • Deliver a satellite Tresillian Family Care service in Burnie.
  • In the first 100 days, set up a Tresillian state-wide phone service and tele-health service for parents across Tasmania.
  • Continue the mother and baby unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital, while consideration will be given to expanding the Tresillian model to the south of the State, once established.

An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is about taking action right now on issues affecting Tasmanians.

Being a parent is the most important and one of the toughest jobs in the world, especially for new mums.

Settling, feeding and caring for a new baby is as rewarding as it is exhausting, and many mums need extra support.

A re-elected majority Liberal Government will bring the nation’s best parent support service to mums and dads across Tasmania.

In a Tasmanian-first, we will partner with Australia's most trusted, experienced and expert parental support provider, Tresillian Family Care.

Tresillian will transform the way we support new mums and dads during those all-important first 1,000 days of their new-born’s life.

We will invest $9 million in a new four-bed Mother Baby Centre in Launceston.

The Mother Baby Centre will have rooms where mothers and their babies can stay, in the care of expert nurses, with children aged from newborn to three years.

The rooms will come complete with their own nurseries and ensuites, two consultation rooms and space to provide mental health support from the Gidget Foundation.

Planning and design will start in our first 100 days and it will be open by this time next year in the new Launceston Health Hub, which is now under construction.

We will invest a further $1.25 million to set up a state-wide phone service with nurses on hand to support parents.

Tresillian will also offer a critical tele-health support service, for parental emotion and psychological wellbeing, especially for stress, anxiety or depression.

The tele-health support service will be available state-wide, and Tassie mums and dads will have an expert nurse on the end of the phone to offer support, to listen and to help.

Both the state-wide phone service and tele-health service will be established in the first 100 days of a re-elected majority Liberal Government.

These new services will help hundreds of Tasmanian families.

We will also continue funding for the recently established Mother Baby Unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital, with a $4 million investment to provide the three dedicated public beds in a separate nurturing environment.

The Royal Hobart Hospital beds have capacity to support mothers experiencing mental health challenges, such as postnatal depression and anxiety.

Net Cost: $14.25 million over four years
