Provide $25 million towards Devonport’s Building a Sporting Legacy precinct plan
The Devonport Community Sporting redevelopment will deliver state-of-the-art sporting and community infrastructure for the region.
The Devonport Oval has emerged as the most suitable location for the new facilities, given the opportunity to combine other Devonport Community Master Plan priorities, maximise community benefits and address ageing infrastructure issues that impact existing oval users.
A re-elected majority Liberal Government will unlock the entire development by providing the final $25 million required to get shovels in the ground.
Sport is the lifeblood of Tasmanian communities and Devonport has a rich history of producing top-level sporting talent. The Tasmanian Liberals want more people participating in sport and know that, as participation rates grow, there is growing demand for new or upgraded facilities.
The redevelopment of the Devonport Oval, which is already the home of football, cricket and cycling in the city, will modernise sporting and community infrastructure in the region.
The project will include the construction of a new six-court indoor facility for netball and basketball, bringing Devonport’s sporting community together in a modern precinct and will add further vitality to the Devonport foreshore area.
A re-elected majority Liberal Government will also enter into discussions with Devonport City Council regarding the future use of the existing basketball stadium site with a focus on providing optimum community benefit.
Net Cost: $25 million in the 2025-26 financial year.
