Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, a re-elected majority Liberal Government will:

  • Double our highly successful Healthy School Lunches program to 60 schools over the next two years.

An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is to prioritise the essential services Tasmania needs and to help develop stronger communities.

We know that children are more likely to attend, concentrate and enjoy school when they have a healthy lunch.

Health School Lunches is a Tasmanian Liberal Government education initiative which is having positive impacts on student attendance, behaviour and health.

Over the next two years a re-elected majority Liberal Government will partner with School Food Matters and Loaves and Fishes to extend our successful Healthy School Lunches program to an additional 30 schools, taking the total to 60 schools.

This will improve student outcomes, help establish healthy habits and provide cost of living relief for Tasmanian families of up to $950 per year per child.

About 8000 additional students per year will be able to access the program.

Under our Healthy School Lunches program, School Food Matters will partner with schools to design their lunch program, and Loaves and Fishes will provide schools with healthy meals and locally sourced produce.

Our strong plan includes one-off upgrades to schools for their kitchens and canteens and staff for each school.

Our program is sustainable, achievable and fully costed.

Healthy School Lunches will provide affordable, healthy lunches, with a voluntary gold-coin contribution per lunch for those who can afford it, saving families up to $950 per year per child.

Our program will also support our local primary producers, with up to 75 per cent of the fresh produce sourced from local farmers.

Net Cost: $14.6 million over two years, including $600,000 in capital infrastructure
