Australia to host FIFA Women’s World Cup

Congratulations to the Football Federation Australia (FFA) for securing, for the first time ever, the As One 2023 bid to jointly host the FIFA Women’s World Cup (FWWC) with New Zealand Football.

Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said the Tasmanian Government was very proud to have contributed to and supported the bid.

“This is a great win for Football in Australia and presents some excellent opportunities for Tasmanian fans to enjoy world-class football stars here in our state, with the possibility of three group stage matches at UTAS Stadium in Launceston.”

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Jane Howlett, said the Women's World Cup is a major event on the international sports calendar.

“It has the ability to attract global media presence and significant broadcast audiences around the world, and we welcome the enhanced economic and social benefits this tournament will bring,” she said.

Minister for Small Business, Hospitality and Events, and Minister for Women, Sarah Courtney said as well as giving our two countries the chance to experience the excitement of live international matches, the tournament will further develop women’s football.

“Tasmania is well placed to host international events like this, showcasing to the rest of the world our contemporary sporting and cultural facilities.”

“It will no doubt encourage more Tasmanian women and girls to participate in sport, which is critical for building a healthier Tasmania,” she said.

As we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic events such as this will be an integral part of recovering and rebuilding our economy.
