The Tasmanian Government and the City of Hobart are seeking submissions from experienced event organisers to run a new end of year food and beverage celebration over the Christmas and New Year period.
Premier Peter Gutwein said ideas are being sought to support Tasmanian suppliers and producers, reinvigorate the vibrant atmosphere of Hobart and offer something that is uniquely Tasmanian.
“COVID-19 has challenged us in so many ways, but it also means we have to challenge our thinking on how to respond. Hospitality and events are key economic drivers, and so we are looking at identifying truly Tasmanian concepts that we can turn into reality, that will help reinvigorate Hobart and celebrate the quintessential produce we are so very proud of.”
Minister for Small Business, Hospitality and Events Sarah Courtney said the concept process will offer event organisers an opportunity to build upon the foundations of one of Tasmania’s most iconic events.
“We are world renowned for offering some of the most innovative and bespoke event experiences and I look forward to seeing the creative concepts that will be put forward as part of the submission process."
Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the City was pleased to be working closely with Government to deliver an event that would celebrate Tasmanian food and beverages, the end of the year and the strong community spirit in Hobart.
“This year is probably the most challenging that many of us have experienced,” she said.
“We are hopeful this submission process will draw out some exciting and innovative ideas for a fitting celebration on Hobart’s waterfront.”
“Coming together at the end of the year to celebrate our wonderful local Tasmanian fare will be an important step in our community’s recovery."
Submissions close 31 July 2020. For more information go to www.eventstasmania.com
