Investment in sporting facilities to Secure Tasmania's Future

A re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government will invest in key football facility upgrades right across the State that will Secure Tasmania’s Future, deliver better facilities for participants and spectators, and increase participation in community sport.

Importantly, it will help Tasmania’s push to host base camps for international sides during the Women’s World Cup in 2023, further helping to showcase Tasmania and inspire women and girls to play the World Game.

The $10 million investment will upgrade facilities at four key locations in partnership with Football Tasmania. The locations are:

  • Valley Road, Devonport, in the North West;
  • Churchill Park, Launceston, and Birch Avenue, Newstead, in the North; and
  • Lightwood Park, Kingston, in the South

Football has a great future in Tasmania and we have seen growth in participation in recent years, which has led to additional demand on community facilities and infrastructure.

We want to maintain the momentum and provide participants and spectators with access to first-class facilities right across the State, and our commitment will provide this and ensure the sport can continue to grow.

It will also create more opportunities for our local talent to develop as we work towards our own A-League team, while supporting jobs and providing significant economic benefits across the North, the North West and the South.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a proud supporter of football in Tasmania, and this commitment will add to our strong record of investing in sporting facilities across the State, including through our Improving the Playing Field and Levelling the Playing Field funds.
