Sporting infrastructure for the future

Only a re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government has a clear plan to Secure Tasmania’s Future and we are committed to investing in modern, fit for purpose sporting infrastructure that will benefit local communities.

If re-elected, our Government will invest $2 million towards stage one of the Queenborough Oval redevelopment.

This funding will go towards upgrading this much utilised sporting facility, ensuring it is fit for purpose and meets community expectations.

Stage one of the project will address the immediate needs of the redevelopment, and includes demolition of existing grandstand and clubrooms, construction of new change rooms to incorporate facilities for female participants, function room and match day facilities.

The total project cost for stages one and two is estimated at $6.7 million and the remaining funding will be sought in collaboration from the owner if the facility, the Hobart City Council, and the Federal Government.

Queenborough Oval is a multi-sport facility utilised by over 700 members from South Hobart Sandy Bay Cricket Club, Sandy Bay Junior Football Club and Hutchins School Old Boys Football Club, however many of the current amenities are outdated and the proposed redevelopment will provide much needed upgrades to the many sporting clubs who use the facility.

We are committed to helping all Tasmanians participate in sport and physical activity.
