Building a secure future for Tasmania

Only a majority Gutwein Liberal Government can be trusted to manage Tasmania’s post-COVID recovery.

In another sign that our clear Plan is working and our economy is on the right track, the latest ABS data shows that Tasmania’s building sector is leading the way on several key indicators.

Tasmania has experienced the highest annual growth rate in the value of residential construction in the country, growing 17.7 per cent over the year to the December 2020 quarter, in real seasonally adjusted terms.

Our State also led the way in the number of houses built annually with 3,112 new dwellings completed in 2020 – 13.2 per cent more than the previous year, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and the highest annual growth rate in the country.

More than $1.82 billion in building work was completed last year, and 3,214 more dwellings were started and are expected to lead to more positive results in the coming months.

Tasmania’s building and construction industry is going from strength to strength and with strong growth in building approvals, there is a huge pipeline of infrastructure and housing work still to come.

Our recent Hi Vis Army announcement will grow the sector by up to 25 per cent over the next four years, and only a re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government has a clear plan to secure Tasmania’s future.
