Supporting veterans and families in Teddy Sheean’s name

Today’s launch of the Cripps Teddy Sheean ANZAC biscuits is another tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of our Tasmanian hero and Victoria Cross recipient.

In the spirit of Teddy’s extraordinary bravery and sacrifice for others, Cripps today presented Legacy’s Launceston chapter with a cheque for $1,500 to assist them in caring for the families of fallen or seriously injured veterans.

Teddy’s nephew, Garry Ivory, was on hand today to convey the family’s support for this fitting tribute.

It has been a privilege to work with Garry and the Sheean family for the past 17 years in advocating on behalf of Teddy for Australia’s highest award.

I was thrilled when Teddy was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross last year for his actions onboard HMAS Armidale on 1 December 1942.

At only 18, Teddy refused the chance to board a lifeboat and a chance of survival while his ship was sinking, instead returning to the ship’s gun to attract enemy fire and defend his shipmates from enemy attack.

We will never forget Teddy’s extraordinary bravery and sacrifice or that of his generation, which is an example to all Australians.

The 3,000 limited edition Cripps Teddy Sheean ANZAC biscuits will be available in all IGA Supermarkets, Hillstreet Supermarkets and selected independent stores across Tasmania.
