Transformation of Montello Primary School

A re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government will transform Montello Primary School in Burnie, improving the learning outcomes for hundreds of north-west children.

We will invest $7.1 million to create contemporary learning spaces because we know that students learn and perform better in high quality environments.

The renovations will include upgrading the current learning spaces into modern state-of-the-art classrooms.

It also includes renovating Montello’s old-style toilet blocks to individual modern cubicles, providing a safer environment which helps protect against bullying behaviour.

This important upgrade builds on our education infrastructure program which has seen us invest more than any Government in over two decades.

We have a strong track record on delivering with around 99 major projects either underway or completed. This includes;

- 24 kindergartens have been completed, with 3 more underway;

- 22 Year 11 and 12 projects have been completed, with another 9 underway;

- 19 Other Major Works have been completed, with 16 underway including new schools at Legana and Brighton; and

- 6 Child and Family Learning Centres are also underway.

Our record investment of $7.5 billion in this year’s State Budget, includes $204 million for school upgrades right across the State.

We’re also investing in the workforce to secure the future of Tasmanian students. Since coming to office, the Liberals have recruited 269 new teachers, 250 FTE teacher assistants and 80 more professional support staff.

Only a re-elected Gutwein majority Liberal government has the leadership and experience to manage the State’s education system responsibly so we can secure Tasmania’s future.
