Myer redevelopment symbolic of benefits of Liberal majority government

When the Tasmanian Liberal Government came to Government in 2014, the now site of Myer and Crowne Plaza Hotel was a long-standing eyesore, a gaping hole in the heart of our city, following the devastating fire in 2007.

The rebuilt Myer and new hotel is symbolic of how far Tasmania has come in the past decade under majority Liberal Governments.

For seven years of Labor and Labor-Green minority Government, nothing happened at that site except a litany of excuses.

It took a majority Liberal Government providing a commercial loan of $15 million to get the rebuild underway.

While ultimately the loan was never in fact drawn upon, it provided the necessary confidence to allow the development to proceed.

Importantly – the loan was opposed by our political opponents.

It wouldn’t have happened if we had been captive to a minority Government.

This site is symbolic of the confidence and conditions that we’ve created for business and opportunities that we have seized over the past 10 years.

And now, we have a 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s future.

To maintain the momentum that we’ve built.

We’ve achieved a lot. There’s more to do. And there’s a lot at risk.

Only a majority Liberal Government can deliver the stability and certainty needed so that we can deliver our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
