Chris Gatenby is a Liberal Senator for Tasmania.
Chris grew up in Northern Tasmania, first on a farm and later in Launceston.
His early years shaped his values: hard work, resilience, personal responsibility and a belief that strong communities depend on people who contribute, take risks and create opportunity.
Chris built a career across Australia and the United Kingdom, working in government, policy and advocacy. His experience covered health, agriculture, small business, trade and investment.
He served as Chief of Staff to a Federal Minister and as a Senior Adviser to the Premier of Tasmania. These roles gave him an understanding of how government works, how decisions are made and how to turn ideas into action.
Chris also worked in a family-owned small business with his wife, Libby.
He understands the pressures small businesses face, as well as the opportunities they create for families, workers and local communities.
Chris has been active in his local community and made a strong contribution to the Liberal Party, including as Tasmanian State President.
Chris lives in Launceston with Libby and their children, Jack and Florence.
Chris is focused on Tasmania’s future. He wants to ensure it is a place where people can start and grow businesses, raise a family and build a secure future.
He is determined to strengthen the state’s economy, back regional communities and make sure the next generation has the chance to get ahead.
