Gavin Pearce’s family has lived and farmed in the Sisters Creek region in North-West Tasmania since the 1850s.

Gavin left school at 15 and became a share farmer, before enlisting in the Australian Regular Army.

After 20 years military service, Gavin returned to the North-West Coast, focusing on owning and operating small businesses, including a farming and abattoir enterprise, Pearce Concrete and a fleet of heavy vehicles.

During this time Gavin also held positions of President of the Wynyard RSL and Senior Vice Chair of the Yolla Co-op, which represented the interests of over 800 members.

Gavin successfully campaigned and was elected as the Federal Member for Braddon in 2019 and then re-elected in 2022.

As member of parliament, Gavin worked hard to be visible and responsive. His consistent aim was to be Braddon’s voice in Canberra and not Canberra’s voice in Braddon.

Given his military and business background, Gavin was viewed as an important member of both the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee and the Agriculture and Water Resource Committee during his time in the Federal Parliament.

Gavin was promoted to the front bench at the end of his first term as the Assistant Shadow Minister for Health, Aged Care and Indigenous Health Care Services, which he held until his retirement.

Gavin continues to live in Lapoinya with Megan and their family, Hamish, Isla and Elsie.
