Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, a re-elected majority Liberal Government will:
- Expand support for women's health services including endometriosis, public diagnostic breast imaging and gynaecological cancer.
- Extend prescriptions for oral contraception - a two-year supply for just one script.
- Deliver the nation's best parent support services for mothers and babies.
- Deliver more quality childcare and early education for Tasmanian families.
- Provide practical leadership training for women in the community services sector.
- Help Yemaya Women's Support Service with suitable accommodation so it can keep delivering family violence support in the North.
- Deliver support to women and children escaping family and sexual violence.
An important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future is to lock in Tasmania's position as the best place to live, work and raise a family, and develop stronger, supported communities.
More Women's Health Services
A re-elected majority Liberal Government will deliver more women's health services, including:
- $4.7 million to deliver a surgical robot and $1.2 million to help more women suffering with endometriosis, including precision surgery with vastly improved patient outcomes, and a boost to awareness, diagnosis and treatment across the public health system. We will also provide increased outpatient clinic appointments in each region.
- $15 million, as well as $3.2 million in operational funding, for a new Public Diagnostic Breast Care Centre, recognising the need for more diagnostic breast imaging and mammography public health services to meet increasing demand. We will expand diagnostic breast imaging to include referrals from GPs for patient with breast cancer symptoms to this new service, increasing capacity while reducing wait times and costs for women. The Clinic will be co-located with BreastScreen Tasmania in a new multi-disciplinary Breast Care Centre in Hobart.
- $10 million for the new Cancer Wellness Centre in Hobart, in partnership with the S.H.E (Support, Hope and Education) gynaecological cancer group, the University of Tasmania and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The Centre will provide support and comfort to Tasmanian women with cancer and their families. The $10 million will be matched dollar for dollar by philanthropic funding and complement the work already being done in cancer treatment and research into gynaecological cancers, such as ovarian cancer.
- Extending prescriptions for oral contraception. This means Tasmanian women will be able to get a two-year supply of their pill with just one script, saving time and money and ensuring that pharmacists can supply the repeat script without women needing to see their GP. This will also free up GP appointments.
- $10 million to attract and retain nurses and midwives in Tasmania, including a relocation allowance of up to $15,000 for nurses and midwives who relocate to Tasmania and remain employed full-time with the Tasmanian Health Service for three years or more, and a $10,000 scholarship for new Tasmanian graduate nurses that start with the Tasmanian Health Service and remain employed full-time for a period of three years or more.
A new partnership with Tresillian for mothers and babies
A re-elected majority Liberal Government will bring the nation's best parent support services to mums in Tasmania. We will:
- Partner with Tresillian Family Care to support new mums, including Tasmania's first four-bed Mother Baby Centre in Launceston with consulting rooms, a satellite hub in Burnie, while continuing the three-bed mum and baby unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
- Deliver a new Statewide phone service and tele-health service, under the partnership with Tresillian, for professional advice, education and guidance, including parental stress, anxiety and depression. This will be delivered in the first 100 days.
More Quality Childcare and Early Education for Tasmanian families
A re-elected majority Liberal Government will deliver more quality childcare and early education for Tasmanian women and their families, including:
- Establishing an Early Years Workforce Development Fund with $5 million, including scholarships and relocation and retention incentives for remote areas.
- $10 million to support primary and district schools establish new onsite Outside of School Hours Care in areas of need.
- Audit Government land, and release surplus land for the provision and expansion of new early childhood and education care services.
- Build four new supersized Child and Family Learning Centres that offer the additional space to enable partnering to deliver early education, long day care and vacation care, Outside of School Hours Care, in Huonville, Smithton, Longford and Scottsdale.
Investing in practical leadership for women in the community sector
There are a great many women working or volunteering within the community sector who don't consider themselves for leadership positions, yet have all the attributes of a great leader.
A re-elected majority Liberal Government will work with the community sector, TasCOSS and Tasmanian Leaders by providing $250,000 over three years to develop and deliver practical leadership training for women in the community sector, enabling more women in the sector to participate in board, management and leadership roles.
Women in business and industry
Under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, a re-elected majority Liberal Government will continue to support women in business and industry, including:
- $1.5 million over three years to recognise and support Women in Leadership in the hospitality sector, support the health, mental health and wellbeing of hospitality workers in the industry.
- Provide Tasmanian Women in Agriculture with $135,000 over the next three years to continue its women's workforce development in the agricultural sector, address workforce shortages and promote female career opportunities in the sector.
Protecting women and children from family and sexual violence
A re-elected majority Liberal Government will protect women and children from family violence and sexual violence and abuse by:
- Continuing to deliver initiatives from our third Family and Sexual Violence Action Plan, Survivors at the Centre (2022-2027) and recommit to our vision of a Tasmania free from all forms of family and sexual violence.
- Provide additional funding for Yemaya in the North of the State to relocate to a new facility which better meets the growing demands of the service. Yemaya provides counselling for women impacted by family violence, and the current location poses accessiblity challenges and safety risks. Additional funding of $190,000 over three years will assist Yemaya in the delivery of its services into the future.
- Providing significant and ongoing funding to support the continued operation of Tasmania's three new Arch Centres, delivering best practice multi-discplinary family and sexual violence, in each region of the State. These Centres are already providing life-changing support for victim survivors.
- Implementing the Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme to protect children from registered sex offenders and enabling parents and guardians to find out if a specific person who has regular, unsupervised access to their child is on the sex offender register.
Women in housing
To support more women into home ownership, and support women who may be at risk of homelessness, a re-elected majority Liberal Government will:
- Deliver up to 100 more Rapid Rehousing homes for women and children escaping family violence, providing transitional accommodation with leases up to 12 months at subsidised rent for this program.
- Provide support workers and wrap-around services to newly constructed homes for women at Jireh House and McCombe House, helping these much needed crisis accommodation facilities.
