The number one priority of this Government during the COVID-19 pandemic has been to keep Tasmanians safe and secure.
Our approach has been consistent from the start. We will be cautious, responsible and sensible. Importantly, we have always, and will continue to follow public health advice, putting the health, welfare and safety of Tasmanians first.
Given the good place Tasmania is in, and following public health consideration and advice over the past weeks on matters, I am today pleased to announce that some internal restrictions will be lifted.
Darts and eight-ball will again be able to be played in pubs, venues and clubs at the end of next week following communication with the industry sector early next week on COVID safe protocols.
Tasmania has at the moment some of the most relaxed internal restrictions in the country. But it is important we maintain those restrictions which are in place to prevent a second wave of COVID-19.
Of course we look forward to easing our border restrictions and welcoming people back to our beautiful island state when it is safe to do so.
At this stage we plan to open to safe jurisdictions on 1 December but if circumstances on the mainland improve more rapidly and the advice is that we can open sooner, we will, but Tasmanians should plan ahead based on the timeline to the end of November as I have outlined.
As challenging as our situation is, I know that Tasmanians will continue to follow the rules to ensure we protect our people, our health system, our economy and the jobs it supports.
It still takes all of us to work together, so please, remember to social distance, wash your hands, cover your coughs and sneezes, if you’re unwell stay at home and don’t go to work, and if you display even the mildest symptoms, please, get a test.
