It’s with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Mr Tony Fletcher.
Mr Fletcher was an Independent MLC in the seat of Russell and then Murchison between 1981 and 2005, serving as Leader for the Government in the Upper House for many years.
Tony was a great supporter of our Resources industry and was a driving force behind the Circular Head bicentennial cattle drive of 2004.
Prior to politics Tony was a high school teacher while also coaching and playing football.
A typical North Westerner, Tony was hardworking, determined and honest- one of nature’s true gentlemen.
On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I extend my deepest condolences to Mr Fletcher’s wife Margaret and his entire family.
