Today, I have written to all Members of Parliament releasing both the University of Tasmania (UTAS) Independent Review report into Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation along with advice from Government Agencies on the implementation of the Bill, should it pass the House of Assembly.
This is in line with the commitment I made last year, and will allow all Members to be fully informed on the Bill to ensure that if passed, the legislation is the best law possible and that it affords real protections for the most vulnerable in our community.
The matter of voluntary assisted dying is complex and I trust both the UTAS Independent Review report and the advice from Government agencies will assist in further informing Members on this issue.
It remains the Government’s intention to resume debate as the first order of business when Parliament resumes on 2 March.
