Securing Tasmania’s iconic events

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has been the strongest supporter of the state’s events sector.

We have built momentum in our visitor economy – supporting, attracting, retaining and growing events to drive growth in tourism in every region of the state.

I am pleased to announce, that if re-elected we will provide $21.5 million to secure Tasmania’s iconic events.

This Fund will enable new multi-year agreements for:

  • The Australian Wooden Boat Festival;
  • Dark Mofo;
  • Festivale;
  • Mona FOMA;
  • Targa Tasmania; and
  • The Junction Arts Festival
These vital events attracted nearly 40,000 visitors to Tasmania in 2019-20, and pre-COVID the return on investment for these events was $170 million.

We understand that these vibrant events will play a key role in driving our economic recovery from COVID and support jobs growth.

Through Events Tasmania, our Government will commence negotiations with the organisers of these events within 30 days of being sworn into Government.

We have already committed to attracting new events to Tasmania through our $8 million Events Support and Attraction Fund to draw tens of thousands more visitors to the state.

As well as supporting major iconic and large events, we will also support community based events with a $1.5 million Regional Events Recovery Fund, assisting organisers to undertake activities that contribute to the sustainability of these rich events in regional areas.

Only a re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government has the clear plan to secure Tasmania’s future and its iconic events.
