Flinders Island harbour funding secured

The Morrison Government is revitalising Flinders Island Safe Harbour in Bass, providing an additional $600,000 to deliver a modern all-weather, all tides recreational marine facility.

Federal Member for Bass, Bridget Archer, said this funding would accommodate boats up to 8.5 metres in length and benefit local-island communities and tourists coming to Tassie.

“This is all part of the Morrison Government’s plan to strengthen Bass and builds on our $4.8 million provided to the project in the 2019,” Mrs Archer said.

“We heard from the Flinders Council that they needed additional funding to deliver the project to a high standard. We listened, we fought for it, and we delivered.”

Flinders Council, General Manager, Warren Groves, said it was collaborative work that has driven the project.

“In addition to thanking Member for Bass, Bridget Archer and the Federal Government for both their ongoing support for the Furneaux Islands as well as this additional funding towards the Safe Harbour project, I would also like to acknowledge the long-term vision, passion and drive of a select group of Island volunteers who identified, planned, advocated and invested in the development of this project,” Mr Groves said.

With the additional funding secured, construction is expected to get underway later this year.

Only the Morrison Government will continue to deliver a better future for the Bass community, and this is part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
