A re-elected Federal Liberal Government will commit $2.3 million to Brighton Council’s proposed redevelopment of the Seymour Street soccer precinct in Brighton.
Liberal Candidate for Lyons, Susie Bower said the funding would support increased participation in the sport in Brighton and surrounding areas.
“Our funding commitment of $2.3 million will enable the Brighton Council to bring changerooms and playing facilities at Seymour Street up to a modern standard,” Ms Bower said.
“This commitment is part of my plan for Lyons to encourage more people to live healthy, happy and active lives.
“The provision of modern playing facilities encourages greater uptake of sport and, with Australia set to host the Women’s Football World Cup in 2023, many soccer clubs are anticipating an increase in the number of player registrations.
“Football Tasmania and its members are to be congratulated for their work in putting forward facility upgrade proposals such as this.
“Seymour Street is the home ground of the Brighton Storm Soccer Club, and the upgrades will entice more locals from Brighton and surrounding areas to get involved.
“In addition to upgraded changerooms, the Brighton Council plans to improve lighting infrastructure and install a synthetic pitch at the precinct.”
