A re-elected Morrison Government will commit $3.5 million for the Stage One redevelopment of the Valley Road Soccer grounds.
Liberal Member for Braddon, Gavin Pearce said the Government’s commitment will enable the Devonport City Strikers Football Club to undertake a substantial redevelopment of the site, including lighting and pitch upgrades, construction of a new grandstand, and refurbishment of existing clubroom and kitchen facilities.
“New grandstand facilities will increase the seating capacity at the venue to around 1,000, growing to 4,000 when coupled with temporary and other fixed seating options, opening the door for the venue to host future A-League games,” Mr Pearce said.
"This funding will transform the Valley Road site into a thriving regional sports complex for the North West Coast.
“The Valley Road grounds have been an integral part of the Devonport footballing community for more than 50 years, and our commitment will ensure the site continues to cater for the avid football players on the coast for many years to come.
“As the number one participation sport in Tasmania, there is a real need to ensure that the venue can accommodate the increasing number of locals playing the game.
“Coupled with Australia’s successful bid to host the Women’s Football World Cup in 2023, clubs are expecting to see a heightened interest in the sport. Our investment will deliver contemporary playing facilities for the region, and encourage players young and old to get involved in the game.”
Only the Morrison Government has a real local plan to deliver for the people of Braddon and to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
