CCTV boost for Sorell to crack down on crime

A re-elected Morrison Government will provide $91,000 for new CCTV cameras in Sorell to help fight a surge in vandalism and break-ins across the region.

Liberal Candidate for Lyons, Susie Bower said this commitment would fund the purchase and installation of 13 cameras across Sorell and help keep local businesses and residents safe.

“Local business owners, residents and community groups are quite rightly fed up with this anti-social and criminal behaviour,” Ms Bower said.

“There are businesses that have been broken into repeatedly, costing them thousands of dollars each and every time it happens.

“Business owners should be able to turn up each day without having to think about replacing windows or doors and local residents deserve to feel safe in their homes.

“We need to do everything we can to prevent this from happening in the first place, and our commitment will deter offenders from anti-social behaviour.

“Our local police do a fantastic job, but they can’t be everywhere all the time, so these additional cameras help them identify offenders.”

Only the Morrison Government will continue to deliver a better future for Lyons as part of our plan to build a strong economy and a stronger future.
