Labor power price cruel hoax simply doesn't add up

Labor has failed their first test of the election campaign, caught out completely fudging their figures with their gimmick announcement on power prices.

Labor leader Rebecca White says her policy would cost $50 million.

Basic maths tells you that this is completely wrong.

As modelled by Treasury, our Renewable Energy Dividend will this year return $30 to Tasmanian households for a total cost of $7.5 million. (RER, page 63).

Therefore, cutting $400 off electricity bills ($30 x 13.33) will cost approximately $100 million (13.33 x $7.5 million).

Add a further $44 million for Labor’s price cap, per year.

So that’s a total of $276 million over the four years of the forward estimates ($100 million plus $44 million x 4).

What taxes will Labor increase to pay for this policy?

The Opposition Leader needs to front up and explain how her gimmick possibly adds up.

If something sound too good to be true, it usually is.

Labor’s cruel hoax on power prices falls into this category.

Only a Rockliff Liberal Government will ensure Tasmanian continues to have the lowest power prices in the nation as well as real bill relief.
