Labor is laying the groundwork for a Labor-Greens coalition after the next election.
Former Labor Premier Lara Giddings has exposed the plan, spruiking a Labor Greens coalition as “nothing to fear.”
What happened under the last Labor Green Coalition:
- Tasmania went into recession;
- 10,000 jobs were lost and unemployment neared 8 per cent;
- The forestry industry was shut down;
- $1.5 billion superannuation fund was raided;
- Hundreds of nurses and police were sacked; and
- They tried to close 20 schools.
Ms Giddings is trying to soften up Tasmanians to prepare them for Labor’s inevitable deal with the Greens.
Labor promises not to do deals, but they always do.
Never forget - in 2010 then Labor Premier David Bartlett swore not to do a deal with the Greens (“I am not going to sell my soul for the sake of remaining in power"), but then did so anyway.
Labor also claims that their Rules prohibit deals. This is wrong. Labor Rules explicitly allow for a deal with the Greens:
Rule 16:10: Further in the event the Party finds itself in a position to form a minority government following a state election, the Parliamentary Labor Party shall not form a minority state government unless the Administrative Committee on behalf of the ALP membership has firstly been consulted. [emphasis added].
Only a majority Rockliff Government can provide Tasmania with the certainty and stability Tasmania it needs.
