2030 Strong Plan for Trade, Antarctic and Advanced Manufacturing

A re-elected majority Liberal Government will introduce our first Inbound Trade Mission to bring the world to Tasmania as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Trade.

“For the past decade, we have backed Tasmanian business and produce to really put them on the map and grow trade by $1.7 billion – that’s a massive 63 per cent increase,” Premier Jeremy Rockliff said.

“We have taken decisive action to take Tasmania to the world with trade missions to our strongest markets to support the growth of Tasmanians businesses and Tasmanian jobs.

“Now, we’re going to take the next step and bring the world to Tasmania, with a new Inbound Trade Mission program, that will bring key investors, buyers, influencers, media and more to our state.

“The program will provide premium state-wide tours that showcase everything that is so great about our state.

“Seeing is believing, and once these key people see our people, place and produce, they will be hooked, and that will grow opportunities, investment and jobs across the state.

“But we also won’t take our foot off the pedal in taking Tasmania to the world, we will invest an extra $1 million in our Trade Mission Plan, and develop a new 2024-2027 Plan too.

“This will provide Tasmania businesses with certainty and strategic direction for key markets to support growth, diversification and expansion into international markets.”

Premier Rockliff said a re-elected majority Liberal Government would also unlock further opportunity in the Antarctic, cementing our stronghold as the gateway to the Antarctic.

“The Antarctic sector is worth $183 million to our economy and employs 1,000 Tasmanians, so we are going to continue to invest to grow jobs, trade, investment, science and opportunities,” Premier Rockliff said.

“We will continue to deliver key sea and air infrastructure to secure our place as the Antarctic Gateway, including keystone wharf infrastructure and upgrades at the Hobart International Airport.

“We will also deliver the first Antarctic Gateway Campaign, to build the brand and promote the gateway to increase visitor attraction and build trade and investment opportunities.”

The Premier said there would also be investment in Advanced Manufacturing to ensure Tasmania continued to lead the way.

“We will invest a further $1 million in the Advance Manufacturing Accelerating Growth Grants Program to unlock competitive advantage for Tasmanian manufacturers and help them scale up and compete in global markets.

“The Grants are between $10,000 and $100,000, depending on the size of the project and based on a matched continuation.

“Tasmania has so many competitive advantages, from our produce, to our Antarctic Gateway and advanced manufacturing, and we will continue to invest and back them all.”

The total cost of this policy is $3.6 million.
