Labor to axe fifth lane on Southern Outlet in desperate bid to cover spending binge

It’s been revealed that Labor plan to axe the planned fifth lane on the Southern Outlet, in a desperate bid to cover their spending binge.

In a social media post yesterday evening, one of Labor’s candidates for Franklin, Kaspar Deane, revealed that Labor will axe this important infrastructure project (see here), stating:

“How will it be paid for? By scrapping the government’s $100m Southern Outlet 5th Lane Project”.

“The installation of a fifth lane (actual cost $35 million) is a vital project to ease traffic congestion into and out of Hobart, and the question has to be asked: what is Labor’s alternative? Perhaps they have invented a teleporter?” Treasurer Michael Ferguson said.

“The truth is, scrapping this project won’t even go close to touching the sides of Labor’s spending binge, which has now topped $2 billion in recurrent spending alone.

“Over recent days, it has been impossible to visit Facebook without finding Ms White or a Labor candidate throwing taxpayer’s money around like it’s going out of fashion.

“On Tuesday, Ms White herself spent some $600 million in a four-hour spending splurge, some $2.5 million per minute.

“Today, when the hapless Shadow Treasurer, Shane Broad, finally comes out of witness protection and stands up to explain Labor’s spending binge, he must answer one simple question:

“Will he rule out new or increased taxes under a Labor-led minority government Coalition of Chaos?”
